Terre en force
with Lola Daels, Carlos Irijalba and Lara Ögel
Kusseneers Gallery, Brussels
17.09.22 - 29.10.22
A swirl of iridescent oil whirling through water. Shimmering bucolic symbols tucked on a bed of river sand. Capitalism’s iconography captured through artisanal techniques. One current runs through the various encapsulated biotopes present in the gallery: the slipstream of relationships between mankind and the natural world. The practices of Lola Daels (BE), Lara Ögel (TR) and Carlos Irijalba (ES) explore diverse positions on this spectrum, ranging from mankind’s infatuation and admiration for natural phenomena and forces, to the human urge to control, subordinate and even emulate them. The backdrop for this exploration: the accelerating decay of our ever-shifting ecosystem.
